Building Careers, Shaping Futures: A Q&A With FiFab’s Modern Apprentice Keiran Samuel
Fife Fabrications have been investing in the development of young talent since it first began operating in 1972. With strong links to Developing the Young Workforce in Fife and a commitment to improving and developing Fife’s offering to young people through its business community, we have a long history of supporting employability initiatives to nurture the development of young talent in the region.
As such, we have many talented young people on the team. Keiran Samuel is one such young person who has recently completed his modern apprenticeship in business administration with us. He talks to us about his experience below.
What has your modern apprenticeship experience been like at Fife Fabrications?
Joining Fife Fabrications as a Business Administration Modern Apprentice has been an incredible experience. All of the team have been so welcoming and have always given time to teach me their skills and knowledge to help me progress. Over the course of my apprenticeship, I’ve developed in different departments and taken on more challenges. I’ve enjoyed taking on more responsibility at each stage.
What have some of the benefits been?
Modern Apprenticeships are a great career choice as they give you workplace skills and knowledge whilst also gaining qualifications on top of that. I’ve gained a HNC college qualification and an SVQ in Business Administration at SCQF level 5. These qualifications boosted my abilities and knowledge in carrying out my apprenticeship at Fifab.
What are some of the skills you’ve gained during your time at FiFab?
Some skills I’ve gained over my time at FiFab would be teamwork and communication in liaising with the team and providing quality customer service. I’ve also gained valuable hands-on experience in key administrative tasks such as data entry, document management and scheduling. I have also had the opportunity to work closely with different departments, improving my IT skills.
What has been a highlight?
Overall, I’ve loved contributing to real business operations while continuing to learn at the same time. The support from my mentors and the structured training I have received have allowed me to grow my confidence and develop a strong foundation in administration for the next steps in my career.
Why would you recommend a modern apprenticeship at Fife Fabrications?
From day one, I felt welcomed and supported by my colleagues, who have helped me develop both professionally and personally. I would highly recommend a modern apprenticeship at Fife Fabrications to anyone looking to start their career not just in business administration, but in the many roles they have available in gaining experience across every sector of the business, including sales, production and engineering. It has provided me with invaluable skills, practical experience, and a clear pathway for future career progression.
