FiFab on the Road – Connecting with Industry Peers
Colin Paterson, Sales Manager at Fife Fabrication’s role involves multiple responsibilities, meaning every day is different. The main duties include dealing with new and existing customers, providing quotations for new and existing businesses and ensuring that we are hitting our commercial targets, visiting customers, training new members of the team and attending trade shows.
FiFab has a membership with Scottish Engineering, with our Managing Director, John Penman, sitting on the Executive Board and Colin sitting on the Future Leaders, allowing us to attend quarterly Future Leaders Forums. At the most recent quarterly Future Leaders Forum, hosted by fellow member, BAE Systems, Colin attended in representation for Fife Fabrications. This was a little different to the usual forum as BAE Systems allowed the members to experience the impressive digital modelling tools and R&D innovation used in the Type 26 class programme, before heading to see the impressive HMS Glasgow in build.
Attending these forums is a great way for Colin to engage with some existing customers, network and engage with industry peers and gain invaluable insights from Scottish Engineering Executives. Our Managing Director, John Penman has held various roles within Scottish Engineering and has been a member of the board for a number of years. Colin’s long-term goal is to move from being a Future Leader to being part of the Executive Committee.
Colin also visited Munich to attend SEMICON and Productronica 2023. This was organised by Fife Council who pinpoint tradeshows and events that would be of interest and allow a particular number of spaces for that learning journey. In this instance, there were eight from the Fife area, including Colin, who attended Munich. The group was filled with a number of different sectors and roles, which allowed Colin to establish great business connections. The trip to Munich was a learning journey, allowing FiFab to see if there is any new work, make some new connections and get our name out to Europe. We were able to put together a new contact list and engage with our new contacts, to begin to grow and develop those relationships.
It is great to engage in these different trade shows throughout the year, make new industry connections and see the different opportunities that may lie ahead in the UK and Europe. We are looking forward to attending the Southern Manufacturing Show on 6th-8th February to further make new connections and engage with industry peers alike.
