From Classroom to Community: YPI in Action at Lochgelly High School

At Fife Fabrications, we’re passionate about supporting programmes that inspire the next generation, and strengthen our local communities. One such initiative that perfectly aligns with those values is the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) – a unique and powerful programme making a real difference in schools across Scotland.

S2 pupils at Lochgelly High School worked in teams to research social issues they care about and talked to various charities at a big Charities Fayre held in the school. They identified a local charity working in that area and created a presentation about the charity’s impact. The best team from each class presented at a final showcase event with the winning team securing a £3,000 grant for their chosen charity.

We had the privilege of being on the judging panel for the YPI final earlier this summer. Every pupil did so well, and all the pitches for charities were worthy of winning. For 5 groups who did not win, we were delighted to donate £100 to each so they can still contribute to their chosen charities.

Programmes like YPI not only benefit local charities, but also nurture civic engagement and empower students in shaping a more connected, compassionate future for all. It’s an active citizenship programme designed to give young people a voice in their communities while educating them about philanthropy, local social issues, and the crucial role charities play in addressing them.

We commend Pauline Abbie and all the pupils involved in this year’s YPI for their outstanding commitment and the meaningful impact they’ve achieved.
